Tim Akast initially trained under the excellent supervision of David Savage and his team of craftsmen in Shebbear, North Devon including the talented Cabinet Makers Daren Millman and Steve Perry.
Prior to setting up his own premises in Totnes, Tim worked with Robin Williams and Rick Dibley in Buckfastleigh. Robin was himself trained by Robert Ingham at the renowned Parnham House whose breadth of knowledge is seemingly limitless.
Tim has invested in some superb heavy duty working machinery for his new workshop in the Totnes Industrial Estate. He offers both fine bespoke furniture and prepared timber products for the building trade under the trading name of 'South Devon Joinery'.
Tim said: 'I love the challenge of designing a piece of furniture to the clients specification and combining the most traditional methods with aspects of the 21st century such as 3D design. I am dedicated to producing lasting, considered bespoke furniture from the finest materials. I am driven by a fascination for the broad craft of woodwork and furniture design and a profound love for the raw material in all it’s amazing variations.'
Tim lives in Harberton, just outside Totnes, with his wife Laura and two daughters Erin and Scarlet.
